Sometimes, I don't have to add personal anecdotes

Founded by L Ron Hubbard, the science fiction writer, in the 1950s, Scientology - which claims more than 8m members worldwide - teaches that psychiatry is "Nazi science" and that its medicines are all about mind control.

When Lauer said that many people had been helped by such drugs, Cruise dropped his famous smile and declared: "You are glib. You don't know the history of psychiatry. I do."

Yeaaaaa!!!

I got a fellowship.

I think my blog hurts. That's a lot of posts in one day.

Evidently...

If you are Baptist (and I am) and you've been to Disneyland since 1997 (which I have), you've sinned?

Weird

So, I'm on my way home from work, and it's hot...we're talking 105 and in the sun, hot. I get about a mile from home, and it starts pooring...still hot and sunny, but pooring - we're talking rain so hard the ground is soaked in the first 10 seconds. Then, I pull in at home, and it stops...it's still hot and sunny, but no more rain. Talk about bizzare...

Could you imagine...

Your doctor says:
Good News!! Thanks to these new tests, we were able to detect your alzheimer's at a very early stage. Unfortunately, there is still no way to treat it.
I think I'd rather not know (for emotional and insurance purposes).

In other news, a process by which humanity has thrived for thousands of years (or longer, depending what you believe) was deemed medically safe.

Tucson

In a little over a week, we'll have been in Tucson for one year. That means I have 1 of 5 years of my graduate career accomplished (you know, give or take 3 years).

Ironically, it took us all of that year to recognize that people from Tucson are weird (no offense to our friends from Tucson). This came through the realization that almost all of our friends (so far) moved here semi-recently.

I do acknowledge that the disproportionate ratio of out-of-town friends to local friends could stem from the large student population, as well as an easy skew of data from a small population size (population referring to the grand total of friends who live in Tucson). Oh well...today I did add one more friend to the list (an out-of-towner).

P.S. You can always identify the illegals. They always drive just a few mph under the speed limit. My guess is that they are trying to avoid being pulled over.

Lucky me

Joelle ran some of the MRI scans on me that she developed. As it turns out, I do have a brain.

Programmers Only

If you are a programmer you will enjoy this:
s=1;
if(s>nsep){
fprintf(stderr, "spacing too large. will be reset to 1\n");
s=1;
}
if(s==1)
nbin=ngrid;

All new

The new worship band I'm participating in made its debut tonight at the Sunday evening service. It was the first time in almost a year I've been involved in leading worship, leaving me a bit nervous.

I think tonight was one of the worst sounding gigs I've ever been involved in (which is saying a lot). Yet, I feel as if tonight was some small victory.

Riding

Yesterday, Neal and I rode our motorcycles up Mt Lemon. It was a jolly good time. Lessons learned:
1) Have your whole body covered with some form of rigid clothing. This will protecting you from the occasional flying rock or swarm of bees (seriously).
2) The Mt Lemmon giftshop is quite average.
3) Scenic motorcycle rides are fun. Enough said...
