Kevin = Tired

We (and by "we", I mean "I") finished moving our stuff out of the old apartment and into the new. Commence unpacking.

We have boxes to the ceiling just about. I know they say a 150sqft difference between living spaces isn't much, but it's a LOT when it's about 15% of your home.

I keep waiting to hear the new Switchfoot song on the radio, but then I remember Tucson radio lags by about a month. Oh well...

Get out of your ticket

If you've spent any amount of time driving around Tucson, you know that (just about) every major street has a 40mph speed limit with the exception of Speedway and Campbell, which are 35mph. This made me curious - how is it that the entire town can be 40mph with the exception of these two major streets? (As a Phoenix native, I know that the majority of the stoplights in Phoenix are timed to provide a shorter commute when driving the speed limit)

So, I decided to time the lights on Speedway - greenlight to greenlight - and calculated the average speed needed to make the light. Results are as follows:
Craycroft to Swan - 1:18 - 46mph
Swan to Alvernon - 1:39 - 36mph
Alvernon to Country Club - 1:23 - 43mph
Country Club to 1:23 - 43mph
Average - 42mph

That's right, folks. You heard it here first. The City of Tucson rewards drivers for speeding.

Creation Mega-Conference

Ronald Bailey went to the Creation Mega-Conference this week. (I know, I am as amazed as anyone that creationists hold a "scientific" conference) I almost wish I could have been there. He reports on it here, here and here. A quote:
"...the conferees were a bunch of decent people trying to make sense of the world and live good lives. The deeply saddening thing is that these decent people have come to believe they have to reject modern science in order to do so."
That pretty much sums up my thoughts regarding most 6-day creationists.

Saturday

Why chapstick is REQUIRED to have healthy lips, I will never understand.

Totally unrelated, this looks cool (via Fark). Although, I'm skeptic. Even if it does all that it says it does, we should all be afraid of a car that has 90 cubed meters of compressed air. Talk about liability...

Another french joke

That's the mentality of the French -- they'd rather be on the side of the loser. I was never as popular in France as I was in 1975 -- when I lost the Tour after having won it five times.

Motorcycle safety

We were driving around yesterday, and saw this really pretty blue Harley. Upon further examination the rider was wearing earplugs in place of his helmet.

I guess he would rather lose his mind than his hearing.

Welcome Home!!

In case you were unaware, we are moving. Texas here we come!!! Ok, just kidding. We're moving across town.

Our new management gave us a small collection of gifts including a nice card, a door mat, and an unopened bottle of Dial soap. Last night, Mindy and I were over at the new place when Mindy decides to put all of our new gifts in the appropriate places - she opens the bottle of soap and some gets into her eye. After one call to the Dial Corp and 15 minutes of rinsing, the pain begins to subside.

Nothing says "welcome home" quite like your first traumatic experience.
